By Clarissa E. Griffin

Dealing with Female Hair Thinning

Are you suffering from hair thinning? Hair thinning in females is different from that of males. Here's all you wanted to know about Female hair thinning - understand the root causes and follow the simple steps for management, prevention and treatment.

Hair Thinning or Alopecia is generally associated with males but females also suffer from it. Hair thinning in Males (Androgenetic Alopecia) leads to the characteristic male pattern baldness - hair disappears from the hair margin first (bitemporal recession) followed by the crown (central recession) resulting in a horse shoe shaped area of hair - the so called 'Monk's tonsure'.

Female hair thinning shows a different kind of pattern called female pattern baldness where the hair is lost from all over the head instead of any specific areas as in males.

Hair thinning problems with female hair tend to bring about psychological problem

Other than the typical cosmetic changes women with thinning hair already have to go through, there are several psychological side effects like lowered self esteem and loss of self confidence. The self esteem issues can be more devastating for women the males.

Female Hair Thinning Issues

Female hair thinning starts after the age of 30 and progressively becomes more pronounced. Female hair thinning, generally, shows a more diffuse pattern of hair loss but may also show male pattern baldness. Male pattern baldness in females may be a cause for concern specially if accompanied with excessive body hair. The two together denote high levels of circulating male hormones. These in turn may result from Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) or Arrehnoblastoma, a kind of ovarian tumor.

Menopause is also ties in with female hair thinning as estrogen becomes unavailable. As Estrogen levels fall after pregnancy conditions of female hair thinning may be seen.

Dealing with Female Hair Thinning

Dealing with the treatment of hair thinning in three easy processes

A) Look for causes and life style factors leading to female hair thinning.

B) Try alternative medicines like topical lotions and natural supplements to reduce female hair thinning.

C) Try chemical medication to retard female hair thinning.

Cheap chemical hair products are best avoided as they contain ingredients that may improve the appearance of hair in the short run but either make the hair brittle and lifeless or have a toxic effect on the root of the hair follicle, thus leading to increased hair thinning in females.

The Many Causes Of Hair Loss

Folklore and myth has created an aura of illusion around hair loss, with of these myths revolving around the cause and result. But what are these myths, and are they true? This report seeks to find the myths to blame, and to clarify, confirm or quash them.

The cons to being bald mainly revolve around the weather. Hair can act as protection against the elements. The lack of hair can make bald men vulnerable to weather conditions.

The health advantages are also clear. No hair means no dandruff and no embarrassment when you really need to look your best. Many men who have a full head of hair normally have to contend with the dilemma of white flakes on the back of their clothing when they decide to wear dark colors ? a problem that bald men do not need to worry about.

Hair loss is commonly referred to as alopecia. There are a variety of different forms of alopecia, with each of the different strands of the disease carrying different symptoms and different severities. Alopecia in extreme cases can spread to all hair on the human body, where it is then known as alopecia universalis.

Hair loss to an extent is normal. On average, people anything up to 100 hairs a day as part of their normal hair loss cycle, with hairs lost being replenished on a regular basis to allow a constant flow of fresh hair. It is when hair loss appears to be above average when action needs to be taken to stem the loss of hair back to normal.

For the past 30 years, more and more people have been turning to drug therapy to help them reverse the beginning signs of baldness. One of the most popular treatments is the prescription of antiandrogens, which reduces the contact of the sex hormone DHT with hair follicles. This stops hair follicles from being denatured and naturally producing pigments which keep hair strong and healthy.

From stage 5, some medication options seen in the previous 3 stages are no longer possible. The anterior measurement now reaches the vertex, with only a small amount of thinning hair ahead of the large baldness patch stemming from the crown. Cosmetic surgery typically comes into play from this stage, with hair transplants an option to consider.

Stress can play a pivotal role in the quality of your hair. For instance, significant traumas to the human body whether physical or psychological can result in a condition called telogen effluvium. Severe stress and major surgery can result in this, and can be detected by abnormal amounts of hair loss, particularly when washing hair; beginning 1-3 months after the initial trauma.

There are people who accept baldness as a coming of age. With a positive correlation between age and baldness, this could be seen as a very wise view to have. Only 1 in 4 men over the age of 80 are unaffected by baldness, according to a recent study.

The scalp cannot produce enough moisture to replace the moisture we lose. Moisturizing your scalp on a daily basis can replenish the moisture lost on a day-to-day basis and can be key to keeping your scalp healthy. There are a variety of moisturizing scalp products available on the market for bald men.

The Hamilton-Norwood Scale is a novel way of seeing where you are on the way to male baldness. Detecting your stage early enough can provide the chance for you to improve the quality of your hair by a variety of methods before it is too late. Also, there is always the opportunity to embrace your baldness.
