Today is the big event! Graduations, birthdays, weddings and anniversaries are lifetime milestones. Naturally, you will want to look (in the immortal words of Paris Hilton) "amaze-balls". Particularly since you know these pictures are going to be put up on Facebook quicker than your Aunt Betty-Jo spreads gossip. It may not be possible for you to look like your favorite movie star, but that's OK. They can't look like you, either! You are the only person who can look like your very best self!
#1 Tip: Keep your chin in mind!
If the photo is being taken very close up, you may feel as if you should lean back so that you fit into the picture better. But doing so will result in a picture that makes you look like you have a double chin, and you will wish that the photo had never been taken. If you are tall and the photo is being taken from below, you may wind up looking like you have an extra chin in the photo, something you probably did not expect when you had your picture taken. If this pertains to you, you can eliminate the chin issue by simply jutting out your chin a bit.
Tip #2 Use camera angle to look taller and thinner
If you are short, you should understand that when photos are taken from a lower angle, you appear taller. Just keep tabs on your chin! It is also possible to appear slimmer if you stand with one shoulder closer to the camera, at an angle. You will probably appear wider when the photo is taken straight on.
#3 Tip: Examine the lighting.
Being lit from above you is going to throw dark shadows across your face, particularly under the eyes. Unless you want to look like Bela Lugosi in Dracula, this is not a hot look. The brighter it is, the better you will look. More light means less shadows and fewer unflattering circles and lines.
#4 Tip: Never stare right at the camera.
Some people are extremely photogenic, and look good in photos regardless of the angle. Other people realize that they look better from one side as opposed to the other. This would not be an issue if everyone was totally symmetrical; unfortunately, that is not the case. Examine how you look from each side and select the one that looks best. Research has revealed that the left side is best for most people.
Tip #5 Blink
Just prior to the click of the camera, close and open your eyes. This is a very old trick, but it works very well. In addition to preventing you from blinking and looking ridiculous in the picture, your eyes will appear fresh without that glaze that comes over your eyes when you wait too long for the photographer to take the photo.
