I have looked into many hair loss remedies and have found some that are better than others in how they say the can slow down hair loss and some even say they will help your existing hair grow more and stronger. I do not know about that but have heard of some of the good some of them do.

Female/Male Pattern Baldness Treatments

By Cliff Nichols

An important feature to how we look to the world is our hair. If you find yourself frustrated and troubled by female/male pattern baldness, you are not alone. This type of hair loss wil represent the shape of a horseshoe, and you will lose hair from the temple area and the top of your head.

It happens for different reasons, such as genetics or high levels of male hormones. This does not have to happen just because it happened to someone in your family. It can be referred to and attributed as alopecia if a father has become bald completely and the person loses their hair at an early age. This is responsible for 95% of complete baldness.

If you have high amounts of male hormone, this can cause you to loose your hair. Other factors can contribute to hair loss and speed up the process, such as stress, bad nutrition and environmental factors.

There are several solutions for your male pattern baldness. Some of the more popular ones are, hair transplants, scalp flap surgery and scalp reduction surgery. You can also try taking dietary supplements and topical treatments, as they are available as well.

When performing a hair transplant, it really means that the surgeon will take healthy hair from a different part of the head replacing the hair to the balding area. In order for this to be successful, there has to be enough hair to donate. People that suffer from male pattern baldness make good candidates for this type of surgery. This hair transplantation can be effective and easy to perform if there is hair still growing in any location around the scalp.

There are people that have baldness due to flaking scalp. They would be a good candidate for scalp reduction surgery. This is done by removing a portion of the area that is balding by means of surgery. This will make the actual balding spot smaller, and then the surgeon can proceed with a hair transplant and have a much smaller area to graft.

Scalp flap surgery is very invasive. A surgeon will remove a part of the healthy scalp and hair from the sides and back of the head. He will then proceed to transplant this on the bald areas. It will create a new hairline for men that suffer from male pattern baldness. This would not likely help those with patchy, thinning hair that surrounds the head. It will however be helpful for those that have balding towards the front of the scalp.

There are other less invasive and less costly solutions available such as prescription Propecia or topical treatments such as a shampoo called Progaine. It is important that you consult with your doctor before taking any hair loss treatments. Propecia can help with hair loss by blocking the body's conversion of testosterone to DHT, the active form of testosterone. If your problem is due to excessive male hormone levels, this has shown to be highly effective.

Speak with your doctor and ask about prescription propecia before taking a more invasive approach to your hair loss.
