Hair today Gone Tommorrow

Balding is not something anyone would look forward to. Even though we are unable to stop aging we can help ourselves when it comes to hair loss.

Our hair does get thinner as we age and more for some than others but with today's medications and creams etc we may be able to slow this down.

I have looked into many hair loss remedies and have found some that are better than others in how they say the can slow down hair loss and some even say they will help your existing hair grow more and stronger. I do not know about that but have heard of some of the good some of them do.

Hair Regrowth Shampoo - How It Works

By Taira Granley

Hair regrowth shampoos are an alternative treatment to drugs and chemical formulas used for hair loss. Since some hair loss sufferers who use FDA approved formulas experience unwanted side effects, there are many reputable companies that offer hair restore products and treatments that are based on plant and herbal extracts. When choosing these products you are looking for those that inhibit the production of DHT on your scalp. Now, why is DHT so important to know about?

DHT, or Dihydrotestosterone, is produced by the body when the hormone testosterone and an enzyme called 5 alpha reductase combine. Another hormone called androgen, which is known to have a significant impact on the growth of hair on the body, is adversely affected by DHT. When the two mix, the common result is hair loss. Both men and women have these hormones and enzymes naturally occurring in their systems. Hormonal changes in the body frequently alter the metabolism of these hormones, which can result in male hair loss beginning in the early years, and women may experience hair loss in later years as they approach menopause.

Hair follicles need to be nourished to grow healthy hair. When DHT is present in abundance on the scalp, it tends to prevent the vitamins, minerals and proteins from being delivered to the hair follicle. When the hair follicles are deprived of nourishment they tend to reproduce more slowly and the growing phase for the follicles may be shortened. Eventually the follicle gets smaller and the hair ultimately falls out.

The hair restore products you choose need to do three things:

1. Contain ingredients known to inhibit DHT on the scalp

2. Keep hair follicle pores from becoming clogged

3. Nourish the hair follicles with nutrients that stimulate growth

Effective hair regrowth shampoos contain ingredients that are natural DHT blockers and are typically very mild. These shampoos focus on cleansing your scalp and nourishing the hair follicles. Since many of them are made from the most natural ingredients, they tend to be non-toxic and provide much needed amino acids, proteins and minerals that your body needs to grow healthy hair. Another bonus is that these natural shampoos do not leave harmful residues on your scalp which contribute to blocked hair follicle pores.

After rigorous testing, the FDA has approved two ingredients as proven DHT blockers and new hair regrowth stimulators. They are finasteride and minoxidil; however, while many people are concerned about the side effects of these ingredients, they are wary of natural products that make similar claims for hair regrowth. Many plants and plant derivatives have been used to maintain healthy hair and scalps in humans since ancient times. The fact that no one wants to pay the FDA to test these un-patentable plants in the same way it has tested finasteride and minoxidil, does not mean that the properties in these plants is not effective for hair growth. Many people experience beneficial results from the use of plant based hair restore products.

Some natural ingredients to look for in hair restore products are Saw Palmetto. Saw Palmetto is a plant whose mechanism works similarly to finasteride in that it is a natural 5 alpha reductase inhibitor and stops the conversion of testosterone to DHT. Essential oils of lavender and rosemary have been used in hair preparations since ancient times. Nettles and bay have a history of use for restoring dull lifeless hair and treating dandruff. Tea tree oil is a very popular remedy for a number of ailments and contains anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties needed for a healthy scalp.

Use common sense when reading the claims of the various natural hair regrowth products, shampoos and scalp treatments. There are a number of reputable manufacturers of these natural, plant based products who will provide independent study information to support the efficacy of the ingredients they use in their products. You may discover that your body responds more favorably with one product over another. Because of the relative low cost of many of these preparations, it is affordable to try several of them before settling on a particular product that you want to use regularly.
