Balding is not something anyone would look forward to. Even though we are unable to stop aging we can help ourselves when it comes to hair loss.

Our hair does get thinner as we age and more for some than others but with today's medications and creams etc we may be able to slow this down.

I have looked into many hair loss remedies and have found some that are better than others in how they say the can slow down hair loss and some even say they will help your existing hair grow more and stronger. I do not know about that but have heard of some of the good some of them do.

You Need To Understand The Role Of DHT Blockers In Hair Loss Treatments.

Scientific research over the last few decades has provided some excellent answers to the problem of hair loss. One of the major breakthroughs in hair loss research has been about the role of DHT, (or what is scientifically known as Dihydrotestosterone), in hair loss. Lets see if we can understand what DHT is and how DHT blockers help to combat hair loss.

DHT is an androgen. An androgen is a compound formed in the body that controls the development in men of many of the male characteristics. DHT is formed from the male hormone testosterone. It is formed in the adrenal glands as well as the testes, prostate and in particular the hair follicles.

DHT is responsible for controlling the development of male characteristics such as hair, including facial hair, during puberty.

There is a condition that you probably know about called male pattern baldness, or androgenic alopecia. You inherit the genes responsible for male pattern baldness from your parents and from earlier generations. The role of these genes in male pattern baldness is now much better understood and relates to the development of DHT in a man's body. DHT also has a role in female pattern baldness.

It seems that those with the genes responsible for male pattern baldness develop much more Dihydrotestosterone in their bodies than those who do not. And it is the DHT that is primarily responsible for hair loss.

Estimates are that up to 95 percent of hair loss is caused by DHT.

Effectively what happens is that the Dihydrotestosterone gathers around the base of the hair follicle and strangles the hair by means of reducing the amount of nutrients available to that hair follicle. It forms a sort of waxy base around the hair follicle.

As hair depends hugely on an adequate supply of nutrients this means that the hair struggles to reproduce successfully and becomes weak and thinner.

As you can see the role of DHT in hair loss is significant and so the role of DHT blockers is also extremely significant. New research has shown that by inhibiting the role of Dihydrotestosterone in the body it is possible to regrow hair that would have been lost without the role of the DHT blocker.

The most well-known of these is what is called minoxidil. This was the first and only blocker approved by the FDA for use as a hair loss treatment and it is now known that minoxidil works extremely well in many cases. However it is also true to say that minoxidil will not grow hair on a bald head.

The best available hair loss treatment that use minoxidil doesn't stop there. As I mentioned good hair nutrition is an essential part of hair health. The very best baldness treatment has minoxidil as an active DHT inhibitor but as well it provides a range of essential hair nutrients which are taken orally.

Supplying the minoxidil only is only half the equation. Blocking the role of DHT is important but allowing their hair and essential supply of important nutrients is equally important.
