Hair today Gone Tommorrow

Balding is not something anyone would look forward to. Even though we are unable to stop aging we can help ourselves when it comes to hair loss.

Our hair does get thinner as we age and more for some than others but with today's medications and creams etc we may be able to slow this down.

I have looked into many hair loss remedies and have found some that are better than others in how they say the can slow down hair loss and some even say they will help your existing hair grow more and stronger. I do not know about that but have heard of some of the good some of them do.

Effective Treatments Exist To Reverse Hair Loss In Men

By John Farikani

For forty-five million American males, baldness is a fact of life. Often showing up in a man's 20's, hair loss typically occurs around the temples and crown and progresses throughout life. People generally lose 50-100 hairs per day, each to be replaced by a new one. This regular cycle tends to slow as a person ages.

Male pattern baldness is caused when the 5-alpha reductase enzyme converts testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). In this form, it collects in the hair follicle blocking proteins from being transformed into new hair. This process begins a sharp increase during puberty as the his body begins to produce testosterone in excess while growing.

To re-grow hair on the scalp, topical and internal prescription products exist that serve to block DHT from reaching the hair follicle. Some of these products carry adverse health and sexual side effects. A primary component is the chemical minoxidil which, when applied topically, stimulates the capillaries around the hair stem allowing proteins to reach the root of the hair promoting growth. Internal supplements act in a similar fashion to allow proteins to reach hair except that it is accomplished by blocking DHT internally.

Internal medications exist in the prescription form, which act to inhibit DHT creation. These are relatively new to the market but have been found safe by the FDA. Natural supplements exist that perform a similar function. The Saw Palmetto herb, often used for prostate health, has been found to greatly reduce DHT production in the body when taken in doses of 150 to 300 mg daily.

Nutrition is a vital first step to regaining hair. Eating foods rich in lean protein, B-vitamins and essential minerals will supply follicles nutrients needed to function normally. In addition, taking an amino acid complex helps supply long chain aminos necessary for hair growth that become difficult for the body to synthesize with age. The MSM supplement has been shown to boost hairs' growing cycles, resulting in the faster appearance of new hair. Using these tools in concert with reducing stress and getting plenty of rest can yield surprising results.

More aggressive treatments exist, such as implants, that show immediate improvements in quantity of hair but very painful and expensive. Supplements as well as topical and internal drugs require a great deal longer, with results often not showing up for three to six months. Patience is the key to remember when working to re-grow hair.

The sooner you start dealing with hair loss, the more likely you are to retain and re-grow hair. Once the follicles have died off completely, they probably won't come back. So take action early or learn to love a smooth hairless head.
