Hair today Gone Tommorrow

Balding is not something anyone would look forward to. Even though we are unable to stop aging we can help ourselves when it comes to hair loss.

Our hair does get thinner as we age and more for some than others but with today's medications and creams etc we may be able to slow this down.

I have looked into many hair loss remedies and have found some that are better than others in how they say the can slow down hair loss and some even say they will help your existing hair grow more and stronger. I do not know about that but have heard of some of the good some of them do.

The Different Types Of Hair Growth Stimulators To Help Hair

By Eugene Yeng

Among the different types of hair growth stimulators are those containing Minoxidil and those containing a mixture of natural supplements. The former are mostly topical solutions applied directly to the scalp. Supplements are generally offered in capsule form for oral consumption. Both are highly effective, but work in different ways.

Minoxidil is the main active ingredient in all Rogaine brand products. It is effective in situations where baldness is the result of shrinking follicles. Minoxidil acts on follicles and increases their size. This in turn increases the diameter of strands originating from the follicles. The effects of these products will not be seen for three to six months. This is because this is how long it will take old growth to be replaced by new growth. As Minoxidil addresses follicles only and not existing shafts, hair grown before its use will not be affected. Future growth will. Minoxidil use stimulates the follicles to produce. Growth occurs in cycles, and Minoxidil not only stimulates the growing phase but also prolongs it.

This drug is contained in products in varying amounts. It is recommended at concentrations of five percent or higher. Effectiveness is directly correlated to elevations in concentrations. Rogaine products are offered in topical foaming formulas for both men and women. Concentrations of Minoxidil are generally higher for the products tailored for men.

Possible side effects of using Minoxidil products include elevated heart rate, low blood pressure and retaining water. Uncommon side effects of direct application include irritation, flaking, drying, redness, and soreness.

An additional form of stimulant is oral supplementation. Biotin supplements are available through NOW Foods in capsules of 5000 mcg. This same nutrient is contained in Nioxin and Country Life products, in addition to other vitamins and minerals.

Nioxin brand Intensive Therapy Recharging Complex capsules are available in bottles of 30 or 90. Maxi-Hair by Country Life is provided in quantities of 60 or 90. Biotin is contained in both of these products, as well as in the NOW foods brand biotin supplements. Supplementing this vitamin improves the diameter of follicles and makes new growth soft. Biotin also works to prevent split ends.

In addition to biotin, Nioxin and Country Life add vitamins A, B and C, calcium and zinc to their multi-vitamins. Vitamin A works to ensure that the glands producing natural oils to nourish follicles work properly. When not enough vitamin A is present, dandruff and growth of dry and brittle strands often occur. Without enough B vitamins, the follicles do not receive required levels of oxygen and become weakened. Vitamin C helps growing shafts from breakage. Hair falls out when there is not enough zinc or calcium. Zinc is often consumed in small amounts than needed. In addition to iron, zinc is among the most often deficient mineral.

There are multiple options when choosing among the different types of hair stimulators. Options range from products containing drugs to products containing naturally occurring vitamins and minerals. They can be applied topically or ingested orally. Both forms can be equally effective.
